Cullinan Diamond Mine is situated in the town of Cullinan 30km east from Pretoria.
Grade: C4
ROLE DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Chief Safety Officer (CSO), the purpose of this position is to apply and monitor the application
of safety control systems and procedures according to organisational and legislative requirements.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform roles and responsibilities of the Safety Officer as depicted in the MHSA regulation 2.17.1 read with all the stipulations
of Regulation 2.19.1.
Maintain safety management system (SMS) procedures for the operation in specific area of responsibility, to ensure adherence
to Group Standards and Legal Requirements, and recommends changes where appropriate.
Communicate and enforce changes to or compliance to legislation and other requirements to ensure organisational legal
compliance.
Communicate Health and Safety Awareness & Campaigns and on the job coaching of legislative and procedural requirements.
Conduct and coach Health and Safety Risk Assessments relevant to Issues, changes or routine activities executed in
workplaces.
Conduct safety inspections according to risk classification schedules (30, 45.60 or 90 days), write reports, load actions onto
IsoMetrix and follow up actions taken to remediate findings and close of findings.
Meeting with HOD and supervisors in area of responsibility to ensure compliance to legislation requirements, at risk behaviour
and conditions to ensure objectives and KPI`s are achieved.
Attend meetings of the CSO to give feedback on compliance assurance and performance and receive instructions to improve
safety performance in area of responsibility.
Assist the CSO with information gathering related to mandatory reports.
Assist HODs and lead with internal incident/accident investigations, remedial action plans and over inspections.
Participate in 2nd and 3rd party health and safety audits in areas of responsibility.
Establish and maintain good working relationships and an effective / sound communication system with the HSEQ Function.
Takes cognisance of and adhere to Company policies procedures and relevant legislation.
Take lead in the review of departmental procedures and COP`s in area of responsibility, manage and report on noncompliance
issues.
HSEms, enforce, maintain and audit the health, safety management system requirements as per the ISO45001:2018 standard
in area of responsibility.
Model behaviour that is consistent with the Company Safety, Health and Environment Vision and Values. Manage and report
on noncompliance issues.
Effective Team Player and Effective Self-Management.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
National Diploma in Health and Safety Management (NQF Level 6)
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in industry specific to engineering, plant and/or underground mining structures, functions
and responsibility.
Experience in performing internal site inspections and participate in HSEQ management system audits.
Knowledge of industry and related legislation and standards.
Incident and accident investigation knowledge – e.g. ICAm, RCAT
Experience in conducting/coordinating workplace risk assessments and providing inputs
Computer literacy and MS Office Suite.
Valid Driver’s license
ADVANTAGE:
Engineering Trade certificate or Blasting certificate with mining competency certificates.
Experience in mining industry i.e. underground or open cast (Diamond Sector)
OTHER SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:
Build safety capability in area of responsibility.
Perform compliance inspections and internal audits.
Provide safety technical guidance in assessing and managing material risks and implementing controls.
Identify at risk conditions, issue stop and fix notices.
Enforce the process of Safety management in area of responsibility.
Briefing and enforcing compliance to procedures and good work practices.
